For several years, the municipality of Valras-Plage has been working to make its public spaces more accessible and mobile for people with disabilities. The resort wants to create a welcoming and friendly environment so that everyone can fully enjoy their stay.
The Mayor, Daniel Ballester of Valras-Plage explains: “We have noticed that some sidewalks and infrastructures were not always suitable. This is why we systematically integrate accessibility improvements into our projects. We have installed tiralos on the beaches and recruited a dedicated person to accompany bathing. This service has been in place for three years now.”
These efforts have been crowned with success: Valras-Plage has obtained the “Tourism and Disability” label for the accessibility of its beach.
A friendly welcome at the tourist office
The Béziers Méditerranée tourist office, labeled “Qualité Tourisme” and “Tourisme et Handicap”, offers a full range of services to ensure you have a suitable and pleasant stay.
The Valras-Plage tourist information office is designed to welcome all visitors, including people with disabilities, with documents in Braille, in large print, magnetic loops and accessible displays.
On site, you will also find shops selling local products, a ticket office for shows, and free Wi-Fi access to stay connected during your stay.

Since 2020, Valras-Plage has made it easier for people with reduced mobility to access the sea thanks to various facilities:
- Grating for easy movement on the sand.
- Metal ramp to help with swimming.
- Tiralo: 4 wheelchairs adapted to enter the water.
- Disabled parking: 11 spaces available at the Magrou car park, near the beach.
- Adapted toilets: 4 public toilets near the first aid station.
- Changing cabin: a private space for changing.
- Wheelchair storage: possibility of leaving the wheelchairs at the first aid station.
- Life jackets available on place.
Guide:
Pierre, responsible for bathing assistance, is there to help you during the transfer to the tiralo and accompany you to the sea.
Anyone wishing to use the tiralos must come accompanied (with or without the help of Pierre).
Opening hours:
In July and August, it is available from Monday to Friday from 10:10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m., and on Sunday from 11:10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.
Outside these hours, the tiralos are self-service.

With his experience as a rugby player, he will have no trouble transferring you from the wheelchair to the tiralo and accompanying you for a safe swim. Pierre has undergone specific training to master the gestures necessary to assist people.

🎾 Tennis and Padel adapted to Valras-Plage
– Valras Tennis / Padel
The Valras-Plage tennis and padel club is committed to making the sport accessible to everyone, including wheelchair users. It offers adapted versions of tennis and padel. Throughout the year, wheelchair players can participate in dedicated competitions, and the club regularly organizes wheelchair tennis and padel tournaments.
The Valras-Plage club is the only one in Occitanie to have authorization to organize the regional wheelchair tennis championship, in addition to hosting a national championship. People with reduced mobility can also participate in able-bodied tournaments, with a double ranking that takes their situation into account.
The club does everything possible to facilitate the participation of these athletes in the tournaments by concentrating the activities over time and taking care of the logistics, such as catering, accommodation, transport, and even the assistance of physiotherapists. Additional services such as wheelchair repair equipment, racket stringing, and the presence of a photographer are also available to ensure an optimal experience.
Wheelchair tennis and padel are played on hard surfaces, adapted for these sports. Training is offered by qualified teachers, and a coach is considering specializing in supporting players with special needs.
This club aims to be family-friendly and welcoming, creating an environment where everyone can flourish, regardless of their abilities.
